Franco Banfi is a professional underwater photographer. Recently he's managed to take an extremely rare picture of a group of sperm whales... while they were sleeping! It happened in the Caribbean, off the coast of the Dominican Islands.
All of a sudden these whales stopped moving and took vertical position. Last time this kind of behaviour was registered in 2008, when a team of biologists from the UK and Japan stumbled upon a group of sperm whales that were perfectly still. Further scientific study showed that sleeping takes 7% of whales' life: they rest 6 to 24 minutes at a time.
The diver you see on the pictures is Sabrina Belloni.
